Swami Vivekanad : 12 Jan - Yuva Divas


Swami Vivekanand (Narendranath Dutta or Naren )

Birth : 12 January 1863

Place :  Calcutta

Father : Vishwanath Datta

Mother : Bhuvaneshwari Devi

Early education :  B.A.,1884, from Calcutta University, he had acquired a vast knowledge of different subjects, especially Western philosophy and history.

Guru Shri Ramkrishna : First meeting with Ramkrishna in 1881 November  At the same time, vehement in his desire to know the truth about God, he questioned people of holy reputation, asking them if they had seen God. He found such a person in Sri Ramakrishna, who became his master, allayed his doubts, gave him God vision, and transformed him into sage and prophet with authority to teach. 

Parliament of  the World’s Religions : The conference state on 11th September 1893. Thousands of delegates belonging to deferent countries of the world had gathered at the conference. Vivekananda was the youngest of them all .When he began his address in his pleasing voice with the words "Brothers and Sisters of America," there was a thunderous applause. He said that people born in different religions finally reach the same God, as river born in different places finally reaches the sea. He emphatically declared that no religion is superior and none is inferior.

Mission & Math : He is considered a key figure in the introduction of Hindu philosophies of Vedanta and Yoga to the "Western" World.After Sri Ramakrishna's death, Vivekananda renounced the world and criss-crossed India as a wandering monk.For three years he spread the Vedanta philosophy and religion in America and England and  found the Ramakrishna Math and Mission in India. Exhorting his nation to spiritual greatness, he wakened India to a new national consciousness. He conducted hundreds of public and private lectures and classes, disseminating Vedanta and Yoga in America, England and Europe. He also established the Vedanta societies in America and England.

Nirvaan : 4 July 1902 at the age of only 39 years.
